Portrait of the week #10 – David Lynch

Luck and chance played a happy role in this portrait, expressing the essence of the artist’s imagery, his oneiric, fantastic, expressionistic side. David Lynch who appears here to have three hands (the third is in fact that of the director of the Cartier Foundation, Hervé Chandes) thus becomes one of the monstrous and human characters that he’s had a penchant for filming since the beginning of his cinematographic career, in movies such as Eraserhead or Elephant Man.

The photo was taken during a gala cocktail party in Paris celebrating the Cartier Foundation’s thirty-year anniversary. I was lucky enough to be invited, having once many years ago participated in an artistic project sponsored by the Foundation.
